MORE THAN A HOME

Tuseme Children Empowerment Trust (TUCET)
Arusha,Tanzania

GO Campaign's partner organization Tuseme Children Empowerment Trust (TUCET) provides a supportive home environment and all basic human needs for Tanzanian orphans who have lost their parents to AIDS and for vulnerable children whose families are too poor to properly care for them. The TUCET home in Arusha is currently home to thirty children who used to live on the street.

With your support, the 30 children living at the home can continue to receive the life-saving resources they need. Your donation will also help TUCET provide life-saving assistance such as food, clothes, basic health care and the opportunity to attend school to more than 50 additional children, many of whom currently live on the street and rely on TUCET to safeguard their future.

GO has been supporting TUCET since 2008 and since that time, we have seen the children living at TUCET transform into contributing teens. Scott Fifer, GO's Executive Director, has spent time with Dominic Balama, the Executive Director of TUCET, helping him to build the capacity of this deserving and valued small grassroots organization. Support from the GO Community is making a huge impact on these young lives and with your help, TUCET will continue to improve the lives of more than 85 children in Arusha who deserve a brighter future.

WHY TANZANIA

Home to Kilimanjaro Mountain, Tanzania is a visitor's paradise with Africa's "Big 5" animals roaming the national parks and the stunning beaches in nearby Zanzibar. Though the country has been stable under its democratic government, there is great disparity of wealth and unjust distribution of resources. According to UN statistics, 89% of the population lives on less than $1.25 a day, and it is estimated that AIDS has orphaned about 1,300,000 children. The government has taken steps to provide free education, but there are hidden costs, like mandatory uniforms and transportation to distant schools, that often bar children from attending school. Although the literacy rate hovers around 75%, only 5% of girls and 7% of boys attend secondary school.

Tanzania is GO Campaign's birthplace. GO was conceived in 2005 when Scott Fifer, Founder and Executive Director, went to Tanzania to volunteer at an orphanage in Kilimanjaro. His experiences with the children and the desire to transform their lives fueled him to launch GO Campaign, and he still visits Tanzania at least once or twice a year. Since GO's inception, Scott - now fluent in Kiswahili - has visited and advised many community-based organizations in Tanzania and can attest to the kindness and perseverance of the local leaders eager to help orphans and vulnerable children.
