On January 3, 2013 GO Campaign received the prestigious Gold Medal Award from the Prime Minister of Cambodia in recognition of GO Campaign’s efforts to rebuild Cambodia. The Governor of Siem Reap Province presented the medal to Scott Fifer, Executive Director of GO, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the completion of two schools built through a 2012 GO Campaign grant to Life and Hope Association (LHA).
Since 2008, GO Campaign has supported the work of four grassroots organizations in Cambodia. GO Campaign has worked with LHA to build three schools, a home for the girls participating in LHA’s Program Advancing Girls Education, and a library and organic garden for the orphans at the Children’s Development Village (CDV), in addition to general support for the care of the orphans at CDV.
GO Campaign has also worked with Cambodian Health Committee to ensure that children with TB and/or HIV/AIDS receive the medical care they need in order to lead healthy and happy lives, with the Center for Children’s Happiness to care for orphans previously forced to sort garbage as their only means to feed themselves, and with Community Connection Cambodia to provide English literacy and computer skills to youth in the minority Cham community.
To date, the GO community has helped to improve the lives of 6,343 Cambodian children and we look forward to helping more deserving Cambodian youth with future grants to local heroes on the ground who are affecting change in this beautiful country.
