Mark* describes himself as a young gay man who loves to be in a woman’s world. Growing up, he had to fight extreme homophobia from his father and siblings. His father ordered his older brothers to beat him any time he was “acting feminine.” Growing up in a violent community, his brothers have both been killed by gang violence. Mark is a hero–fighting for rights of LGBTQI in school and in the community. He is thrilled to be a member of the group and to serve on the outreach team. He has felt a shift in himself, learning how to empower himself and others in the community. His mother has always been his biggest advocate and has fought to support Mark his entire life. Mark wishes to one day be a counselor.
