Michael is 19 years old and has Down syndrome. In April 2016, Manos Unidas placed Michael at Ninos Hotel in Cusco, where he received vocational training as the hotel doorman. His responsibilities include helping guests take their baggage to their rooms, cleaning the patio, and watering the plants. Michael’s dedication to his job is evident. Though his family lives in a small town outside of Cusco, he independently travels more than an hour and half one way each day to arrive at his job on time. The experience working at Ninos Hotel has had an incredible impact on both Michael and his family. Michael takes pride in his work and his self-esteem has improved vastly since working at the hotel. His family are so appreciative of the change that Manos Unidas has brought to their lives.
