Wadad, a 14-year-old resettled in January of 2015, entered Camp with very little conversational English. The structure of Camp GirlForward allowed her to participate in the full group during the morning, and receive individualized instruction with a teacher in the afternoon. By week five, Wadad was raising her hand to answer questions in English in front of 20 of her peers. The first time she offered an answer out loud, the entire room cheered. Recently, Wadad communicated to the staff at GirlForward that she couldn’t wait to return to Camp and translate for newly arrived students.
