2010 GO Innovation Award: Art

Results: Final Report

As a 2010 recipient of the GO Innovation Award (GIA), Rasheed Akindiya, a young Nigerian painter famous for turning discarded items into colorful artworks, was able to hold workshops focused on sharing his creative art with youth. During the workshops, participants had the opportunity to use waste materials, scraps, and found objects in their pieces. The first workshop held was for children ages 5-15 and there were a total of 50 participants. The second series of workshops took place in the seven areas of Makata Market with a total of around 450 children participating in the program. The children enjoyed the workshops and now they are aware that they can use found and recycled materials to create beautiful works of art.
