2010 GO Innovation Award: Papermaking

Results: Final Report

As a 2010 recipient of the GO Innovation Award (GIA), artist and Assistant Professor Mary Hark was able to hold workshops for youth in Ghana to teach them how to make paper from an invasive non-indigenous plant rather than using native vegetation. Mary was able to train eight Masters of Arts Education students in the technical aspects of papermaking, simple bookbinding and ways to integrate the lessons into the curriculum. Together they then held two workshops for 30 students and 10 teachers to teach them about the process. The workshops were a great success and now the art education teachers are now sharing the knowledge with more students in Ghana.
