2010 GO Innovation Award: Windmills
As a 2010 recipient of the GO Innovation Award (GIA), William Kamkwamba was able to hold workshops for youth to teach them how to build windmills and repair water pumps. A total of 118 children participated in the project. At the end of the workshops, all the children were tested to see if they understood the process. The participants were all able to explain how to construct a windmill and use the power generated to run a radio. William, author and subject of the book “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”, is a unique role model for youth in his community and he was able to inspire a new generation of children.
