Building a Music School

Building a Music School

The Music School of Cateura had humble beginnings in a borrowed shed near the landfill where Favio Chavez gave a music lesson to ten children from the community. With growing fame, a proven record of success, and over 250 students annually, the shed was no longer an option for these youth who had little access to education.

After years of dedication and hard work, the Recycled Orchestra finally acquired property on which to build new headquarters. In 2016, GO Campaign gave a grant of $50,000 to help build the music school. The end goal is to change the lives of the children in the community and the lives of their families – not only providing them with music, and giving them new opportunities that take away from drugs, gangs, and the negative influences that are so present in their lives, but challenging them to new ways of thinking about their future and what is possible.

We are now raising funds to help sustain the music education program. Join us in Supporting the Recycled Orchestra!
