Empowering the Talibe
Thanks to the support of the GO community, we were able to support Maison de la Gare, an organization whose mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable children. The talibe are children studying Quranic law in schools called daaras in Senegal. An estimated 50,000 children in Senegal are forced to beg on the streets and give the money they earn to their religious teachers at the daaras. Though outlawed in 2005, this practice is still occurring. Maison de la Gare’s mission is to improve the lives of the begging talibe children and GO was proud to partner with them to build an emergency shelter and kitchen at Maision de la Gare. This will enable them to better care for talibe children in crisis.
