Results: Final Report

Thanks to the support of the GO Community, SHERP, an orphanage for 110 disabled children in Samburu, Kenya, was able to totally renovate their bathroom facilities in order to make them handicap accessible. Toilet stalls were expanded to allow wheelchairs, safety bars were added, sinks were lowered so that they could be reached by children in wheelchairs, and the walkways to the facilities were paved. The children now use these facilities with much greater ease. In addition, SHERP was able to renovate five dormitories. Broken and missing windows were replaced, floor tiles were set, and ceiling panels were installed. With these needed renovations, SHERP is now meeting the healthy and safety requirements of the Kenyan Ministry of Public Health, and the children no longer have to struggle physically nor suffer indignity just to use a bathroom.
