Results: Final Report

Thanks to the partnership between GO Campaign and imagine1day, construction of a 4-classroom building for grades 5-8 for the Abi Adi School in the Kilte Awlaelo District of Northern Ethiopia was completed successfully. The new school was inaugurated on March 14, 2012. The current student body being served by the project is 111 male students and 116 female students (total of 227). In September 2012, the school expanded to include grades 1-7, and by September 2013 it will be a complete primary school serving grades 5-8. The school will eventually serve over 500 students per year.

A significant achievement for the project was the community’s financial contribution of 150,000 Ethiopian Birr (approximately $8,800 USD). This contribution is significant for a rural community in Tigray, Ethiopia which has long been considered an impoverished society, incapable of being self-sustainable. This contribution has resulted in a strong sense of community ownership over their new school and a commitment to the school’s long term legacy.
