Kibera Girls Soccer Academy 30 Day Challenge!
Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA) has been an incredible partner. They are challenging and changing the perception of girls in Kibera and helping their students to realize their dreams. But now they need your help.
KGSA is located in Kibera, the largest urban settlement/slum in Kenya. Kibera is characterized by high unemployment, poverty, overcrowding, and insecurity, while being underserved by health, education, and sanitation services. The mission of the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy is to provide quality, free secondary school education to girls in Kibera, preparing them for higher education, employment, or entrepreneurship after high school. In 2014, KGSA was honored as one of the first thirteen Ashoka Changemaker Schools in East Africa; it is the only one in Nairobi. These schools support children as changemakers – individuals with the skill set, desire, and initiative to solve problems and drive positive change in their communities. To further succeed in their mission of empowering the most vulnerable girls in the Kibera community, KGSA raised funds to build a dormitory on their campus. Now they will be able to provides safe housing for 75 girls experiencing severe abuse and poverty; they can ensure that these students have a safe place to live as they focus on completing their secondary school education. They now need $35,200 to furnish the computer lab and library for the dormitory, so the girls have all the tools necessary to support their academic pursuits.
A generous donor has offered to match if GO supporters can raise the other half – $17,600. There is a catch – we only have 30 days!
Are you ready to provide deserving girls with the tools they need to escape a life of poverty and abuse?
