In February, Adam Bold, Chairman of The Abrams Artists Agency, named GO Campaign as their official charitable partner for 2019. Abrams jumped right into our partnership this Mother’s Day by teaming up with Loving Hands, an organization that provides support and aid to grieving families with an emphasis on parents who have lost children to gang violence in Los Angeles.
Every year, GO Local Hero Kathy Wooten hosts a special Mother’s Day Brunch for women in the organization who have lost their children to gang violence. It’s an opportunity for mothers to receive support from other similarly situated mothers who understand their pain, as well as an opportunity to celebrate and remember their sons & daughters. The brunch is attended by over 200 mothers and 50 baskets are gifted to the mothers who have most recently lost children.
Standing in solidarity with Kathy and the families supported by Loving Hands, The Abrams Artists Agency not only purchased the 50 Mother’s Day baskets and all the gifts for this years brunch, but they organized an afternoon for their staff to assemble the baskets, donning each with a handwritten, heartfelt note. Abrams Artists Agency’s generosity didn’t stop there. In addition to these baskets, Abrams raised $6,500 making it possible for Kathy to impact 50 more youth through her support groups, mentorship programs and workshops.
This years brunch took place on Saturday, May 11th. Kathy was joined by her husband, members of the GO Campaign staff and over 200 mothers who not have had anyone to celebrate them otherwise. The afternoon was dedicated to celebrating the lives lost and Kathy’s commitment to uniting divided communities by promoting peace and creating a safe space for grieving families to heal together. The weekend was a memorable experience filled with tears of sadness and joy for everyone involved.
It was powerful bringing our communities together in solidarity of a meaningful cause. Everyone was deeply moved by Kathy’s personal story of loss and her unrelenting dedication to her mission. Connections like this are exactly #WhyWeGO.
Founder of Loving Hands and GO Campaign Local Hero
After two sons were murdered months apart in gang-related violence, Kathy turned her grief into action and started Loving Hands, an organization dedicated to providing support and aid to grieving families who’ve lost their children to gang violence and trauma in Los Angeles. Kathy is committed to working to end violence in Watts and other neighborhoods of South LA as she’s determined to prevent more mothers from experiencing the loss that she has. GO Campaign works with Kathy to help support, empower and provide a safe space for youth in Watts.
