Technology Literacy (Year 2)
Yolé!Africa | DRC
In 2013, GO Campaign provided 965 youth with access to Yolé!Africa’s curriculum. Grant funds were used to support a 3-month training for young people in Goma, during which they learned to access IT tools and utilize social networks. This project was particularly important in helping youth develop the skills necessary to play a powerful role in standing against injustice and social abuses through international communication and social-media. Already, among the young people who participated in these trainings, some of them have become independent journalists, bloggers, and active internet users.
Founded and led by Local Hero Petna Ndaliko, a Congoleses filmmaker, Yolé!Africa is a centre of art, creativity and cultural exchange with locations in Goma, Eastern DRCongo and Kampala, Uganda. Yolé!Africa seeks to promote and encourage art by supporting local artists and offering them a creative space. Through training, workshops and community events, it promotes dialogue and respect for others by empowering youth to think critically and act non-violently, as well as to stand up against all forms of oppression and human rights violations. Through debate and reflection on current social and political issues, they hope to instill in the youth that everyone has the right and duty to make their community a better place.
