GO on the Ground: Scott Visits Elimu Fanaka in Rural Kenya
“Hello from rural Kenya,” Scott shared during his recent trip to visit GO Campaign partner Elimu Fanaka. “I’m here with our partner who works with really remote and severely underfunded schools to teach parents and communities how to come together and make their schools better and really give opportunities for their children.”
In this central region of Kenya, daily challenges are immense: limited access to clean water, food insecurity, and even human-wildlife conflict—elephants frequently damage water tanks and pumps, leaving entire schools and villages without reliable access to water. Despite these obstacles, Elimu Fanaka is bringing communities together to find creative, lasting solutions.
Their programs go far beyond traditional schooling. Students are introduced to agriculture, beekeeping, and environmental education, while parents attend classes in financial literacy, savings, and community lending models—building the skills needed to sustain change across generations. Schools are also equipped with libraries, technology, and cultural mentorship programs, transforming education into a holistic experience that uplifts children and their families alike.
Scott witnessed firsthand how a community with limited resources but unlimited determination can achieve extraordinary impact. “It’s really amazing how a community can come together with essentially little resources and so many challenges, but really accomplish a lot,” he reflected.
Elimu Fanaka is a reminder of the power of grassroots leadership and the resilience of communities determined to create brighter futures for their children.
