GO on the Ground: Time for Change in South Africa

GO CEO & Founder Scott Fifer has touched down in Johannesburg, South Africa!

This week, Scott reunited with longtime GO Partner Time for Change, led by our remarkable Local Hero Barbara Hill. Since 2013, Barbara and her team have been restoring dignity and self-worth to some of the most marginalized members of society — from children living on the streets to women trying to escape life on them.

During his visit, Scott was joined by his dear friend Francie, a dedicated social entrepreneur, who first introduced him to Barbara years ago. Together, they reflected on the life-changing work happening here in Soweto.

“These two women are angels on earth,” Scott shared. “Barbara and Francie are the real heroes. They’re creating opportunities for children who’ve been abandoned, for young people dropped off by police or social services, and for women who are bravely stepping away from sex work to start new careers as bakers, seamstresses, and tailors. It’s inspiring beyond words.”

Time for Change isn’t just a program — it’s a lifeline. From offering shelter to homeless children to providing rehabilitation and vocational training for women, Barbara and her team are breaking cycles of poverty and creating lasting opportunities for empowerment.

Barbara herself had a message for the GO community:

“Tell them that I love them and I always wish they could come to South Africa and see this project themselves.”

We’re honored to support Time for Change and the vital work they do to uplift vulnerable children and youth in their community.

More from Scott’s South Africa trip coming soon — stay tuned!
