Project Update: G.IRL's Youth Leadership and Development Program Grows with GO Support

Thanks to a grant from GO Campaign, G.IRL (formerly Compton G.IRL’s Club) has seen remarkable growth and transformation in its Youth Leadership and Development Program — expanding its reach, deepening its services, and strengthening its support network for girls in Compton.

Since receiving GO funding, G.IRL (Girls in Real Life) has more than doubled its programming. What once was a weekly gathering has evolved into a robust calendar of events, with up to three programs happening on some weekends. As a result, the number of youth served has significantly increased — and so has the demand. Their waiting list has doubled, a clear indicator of both the need and the program's growing reputation.

The expansion hasn’t just been in numbers — it’s been in depth. Teen mothers now have direct access to essential resources, including housing support and home visitation services. High school students are gaining confidence and direction through college prep classes. And in a major step forward, G.IRL created and filled a new role: the Youth and Family Support Specialist. This key position allows the organization to take a more holistic approach, identifying challenges within families and connecting them to wraparound services that keep girls engaged and supported.

Looking ahead, G.IRL is focused on sustaining this growth. Their current goals include securing additional funding and building greater visibility to attract a more diverse donor base. With continued support, G.IRL is committed to equipping more girls in Compton with the leadership skills, mentorship, and community connections they need to thrive.

GO Campaign is proud to support G.IRL in their mission to uplift the next generation of leaders.
