Twenty Years Later: The Boy Who Helped Inspire GO Campaign

From Tunahaki Orphanage in Tanzania to a career in telecommunications, Leonce Kabela's journey reflects the impact of opportunity, education, and belief in a child's potential.

When GO Campaign founder Scott Fifer first met Leonce at Tunahaki Orphanage in Tanzania, he was a young boy who had lost his father and faced an uncertain future. What began as a friendship between a volunteer and a child would grow into a bond that helped inspire the founding of GO Campaign.

Scott returned to visit the children at Tunahaki year after year, encouraging Leonce's education and celebrating his achievements along the way. With hard work, determination, and the support of people who believed in him, Leonce earned opportunities few could have imagined—from attending high school in Hawaii to graduating from Whitman College with a degree in Chinese language and a minor in economics.

Today, Leonce is thriving in China, where he works in the telecommunications industry. Though he now lives halfway around the world, he remains closely connected to Scott and the GO family that has been part of his journey for nearly two decades.

As GO Campaign celebrates 20 years, Leonce's story is a reminder of what can happen when a child is given opportunity, encouragement, and someone who never stops believing in them.
