Local Hero Spotlight: Chrystani Heinrich
When GO Campaign first met G.IRL (Compton G.IRLS Club), the organization was just beginning in Compton—driven by the vision of Chrystani Heinrich. Today, G.IRL’s growth across Los Angeles is a direct reflection of Chrystani’s leadership and deep roots in the community she serves.
A lifelong champion for women and girls, Chrystani spent 12 years as Assistant Librarian at Compton High School where she saw firsthand how traditional schooling often fails to equip students with life skills or spaces for creativity and belonging. Girls came to the library searching for something more. Seeing her own story reflected in theirs, Chrystani set out to become the mentor she once needed—and G.IRL was born.
Under her leadership, GO Campaign’s grants helped turn early ideas into lasting impact. Programs like Cyber G.IRL introduced young women to coding, design, and journalism through mentorship by BIPOC professionals, while brand-new laptops removed barriers to continued learning. One participant, Andie, found confidence, friendships, and relief from social anxiety—proof of what’s possible when girls feel supported and seen.
GO’s support also helped transform G.IRL’s clubhouse into a true home base, providing meals, books, and care so girls could focus on learning. As the organization matured, Chrystani led a shift to a cohort-based leadership model, deepening relationships and outcomes. Former participants returned as staff. Younger siblings followed older sisters. Families found support in moments of crisis.
What began in a high school library has grown into a trusted network of programs across Los Angeles because of one Local Hero’s unwavering commitment. Chrystani’s leadership is why G.IRL works—and why it continues to thrive. Supporting leaders like her ensures girls not only imagine more for themselves, but have the support to get there.
