Scale and Sustain Project Update: Voice for Humanity Uganda

At the 2025 GO Campaign Gala we asked our community to help us change the lives of children in some of the toughest areas of the world and they answered the call. Here is another one of the stories.

GO Campaign partnered with Voice for Humanity Uganda (VFHU) in Obilokongo, Uganda to tackle one of the most urgent challenges facing desperate refugees in camps and host-community youth: the lack of real economic opportunity. The reality on the ground is that many young people in the region are stuck in a cycle of unemployment, food insecurity, and dependence on a trickle of aid that is drying up. The youth have potential, but they need a path forward.

Your support helped expand that path.

Enter GO Local Hero David Elungat, who has been working with GO to build programs that teach sustainable agriculture and livestock farming to refugee and community youth. Your gift helped expand the programs by training 20 Model Youth Farmers in agricultural techniques and business skills, giving them the tools to grow their own enterprises, and then turn around and mentor others. A newly established 10-acre demonstration farm now serves as a living classroom, where young people can learn, experiment, andz build futures in farming. All told, the expanded programs have trained and resourced 175 youth this year, with another 200 community members benefiting along the way. Families are already reporting better harvests, stronger food security, and higher household incomes.

But perhaps the most powerful story belongs to John.

Only 19, John is a refugee living in Boroli Settlement. A few years ago, he received a single piglet from VFHU. With patience and determination, he grew that into a herd of ten. Through the program expansion, he got advanced training, funding for a proper pigsty, and the confidence to keep going. The income he earned allowed him to return to school after dropping out and now he has his sights set on becoming an engineer. John isn’t the only life transformed: he's now teaching other young people everything he knows.

This is the power of a gift to GO – a legacy of changing lives one youth, one farm, one future at a time.

We hope to see you at the 2026 GO Gala on October 17 at the Maybourne in Beverly Hills where we will be celebrating 20 years of impact together.
