Classroom Support

LET’S BE READY | GUATEMALA

In 2023, GO Campaign awarded a grant to Let’s Be Ready to support programmatic costs for 12 classrooms in remote rural communities across Guatemala. These areas face significant challenges and are often overlooked, leaving children at a continual educational disadvantage. The grant directly impacted 192 children.

Let’s Be Ready continues to provide innovative, high-quality early childhood education across multiple departments in Guatemala. The organization focuses on the holistic development of young children, ensuring they gain the foundational skills needed for future success. With support from GO Campaign, Let’s Be Ready was able to sustain programming and provide essential training for facilitators.

An impact assessment conducted in 2023 revealed significant progress. In the Quiché department, 150 children were evaluated at the start of the program—141 of whom had no basic reading, writing, or math skills. After participating in the program, 135 children could read the alphabet, write their names, and count to 100. Similar gains were seen in classrooms across other departments.

Despite challenges such as difficult travel during the rainy season, area supervisors and local teachers worked together to gather updated information and monitor program needs. Looking ahead, the organization is exploring the acquisition of suitable vehicles to improve access to remote communities.

Sofia Garcia, Administrative Coordinator for Let’s Be Ready, shared the growing recognition and appreciation for the program:

“Let’s Be Ready is proud to prepare each child for elementary school. Children learn to work in groups, to be team players, and they acquire basic reading and writing skills that serve them well in school. Many of our children’s parents never had the opportunity to attend preschool, and they are grateful for the support provided in 2023. In every community we serve, we are now recognized for the care we give to young children. Many new communities are reaching out to request our support where no preschool options currently exist.”
